Our history

Rundvirke Industrier AB is both history and future.

Back in 1899, we began to protect wood with industrial processes. The railway sleepers company was the first privately owned company to establish operations for wood protection of poles and sleepers in Sweden. AB Impregna in Ludvika was the second company, and it has been operational in this since 1924. Power line poles and sleepers manufactured today will serve in significant infrastructure until the latter part of this century. Over the years, the Group has delivered poles to all five continents. For the past thirty years through the sales company Rundvirke Poles AB.

A significant event in the development was the establishment in 1987 of our wood raw materials company, Rundvirke Skog AB. Through this establishment, the Group was able to gain satisfactory control of both volumes and qualities of the special timber we require. The company is well established from central Sweden to central Norrland.

Through the acquisition of AB Rundvirke in Marmaverken in the 1990s, the Group was able to increase the number of special ranges, including knot-free wood for joinery and window production.

An event of great significance was the establishment of Octowood AB in Kälarne, Sweden, in 1996. It is situated next to the Stambanan main line railway, and the Group has invested more than SEK 400 million in a completely new industry. Power line poles are manufactured here, as well as posts for agricultural purposes. Both products have been well received on the market and both production lines are among the largest and most modern in Europe. More than three quarters of total production is exported.

More recently, AT-Träkomponent in Edsbyn, Sweden, was acquired as a complement to AB Rundvirke. The company manufactures spliced and glued products for the window industry. Significant investment has been made in AT-Träkomponent for more efficient production. Together with the subsidiary company AB Rundvirke, the company has a complete range for the window industry.

To improve presence in Hälsingland, Sweden, the Östanåsågen was acquired in 2016. Through this acquisition the Group has gained synergies with other group companies. A significant proportion of sales are exported to Europe, North Africa and Asia.

Rundvirke Industrier has been a family business since 2013, when the Group was wholly acquired by the long-time CEO. The group was previously called AB Borgen but changed its name in 2016 to Rundvirke Industrier to establish clearer cohesion in the group.
